NNSL (Jun 26/98) - The Stanton Regional Health Foundation hasn't officially launched its capital equipment campaign yet, but that doesn't mean it isn't looking for money.
Founded in October last year, the campaign committee has already received individual and community donations to begin replacing expired equipment as well as acquiring new machines.
Wednesday saw a major boost to the campaign when the NWT Power Corporation pledged $50,000 to the hospital over the next three years.
"We have been looking for the right opportunity to make a significant donation to a program that can make a difference for everyone," said NWT Power president Leon Courneya.
Courneya also commented on the fact that both the hospital and NWT Power are celebrating 10 years of service across the territories.
He presented this year's contribution of $10,000 to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
"We're delighted to welcome the Power Corporation as our first major corporate patron," said regional committee chairman Larry Elkin. "We hope this will set the tone for others in the business and service community to add their support to the foundation."
At the top of the foundation's wish list is a $1.3-billion CT scanner, which they plan to buy within the next five years. An average of 600 patients requiring CT scans are sent to Edmonton each year, costing around $700,000 annually.
