Constables in new digs
Municipal Enforcement gets some leg room by Derek Neary
NNSL (Apr 24/98) - The difference between upstairs and downstairs at City Hall is more room and more privacy for Yellowknife's municipal enforcement division. The constables made the transition to the bottom floor of the building a few weeks ago and are quite content with their spacious new location. "It's a positive move," said manager Paul Gamble. "We're all quite happy with our new space." Now, the six constables have an office twice the size of their old one. After five years, supervising constable Larry Webber has his own office rather than a cubicle. The two clerks no longer have to share space with employees from the building inspection division. "There's a sense of ownership. It's our own little space," Gamble said. Of benefit to the public, is the privacy now offered. Previously, municipal enforcement was located just inside the main doors upstairs. Anyone who dropped in to discuss a bylaw complaint was potentially airing their grievance to anyone within earshot. "We can now provide a more professional service to our clients," said Gamble. It's not necessary to go downstairs to pay a fine, however. The finance department on the top floor still processes the fines and fees. After hours, there are drop boxes located outside the building. Despite the move, all municipal enforcement phone numbers remain the same. |
