NNSL (Apr 10/98) - A Fort McPherson man who brutally attacked two others and wrecked a private home while drunk has been sentenced to 11 months in jail this week in Yellowknife. Stanley James Itsi, now 20 years old, pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm, assault and mischief for the beatings and causing $1,405 damage at a house party in Fort McPherson last month. He was also ordered to make restitution for the destruction. Itsi, who has been in custody since the February 22 incident, court heard, kicked one victim in the face and combined with another person to badly beat a second man. He was under a probation order at the time. "In sentencing here, I have to protect the public... keep him off the streets," said territorial court judge Michel Bourassa. "He's out of control." Itsi, Bourassa noted, had already undergone alcohol treatment and rehabilitation during previous stints in custody. A co-accused young offender was sentenced to nine months in custody for assaulting causing bodily harm and mischief under $5,000. |
