Name tag mix-up pinned on De Beers
NNSL (Jan 28/98) - A Natural Resources Canada spokesperson says a mix-up in name tags by the hosts was the cause of an identity crisis at last week's opening of De Beers first Canadian office in Vancouver.
"Four of our employees were invited, but none went," said department press
secretary John Embury. "There must have been a mix-up when De Beers made up
the name tags."
To the surprise of the Yellowknife delegation who attended
the event, a woman named Anne Griffiths, wearing a Natural Resources name
tag, promoted Montreal as the ideal place to set up a secondary diamond
industry.
Yellowknifer has learned that Griffiths works for
Execuspace, a Montreal company that leases office space. She did not return
calls requesting an interview.
