Lee's pretrial continues
Will be back in court Dec. 12 as hearing stretches on by Ian Elliot
NNSL (Nov 07/97) - Wing Lee was back in court this week but no new charges have been laid against him. Lee, 61, made his fourth pre-trial appearance in territorial court Wednesday and yesterday to find out if 11 more sex-related charges will go to trial. Because two witnesses did not appear to testify, the judgement on whether to make him answer the latest batch of allegations has been put over until Dec. 12, which will give prosecutors time to produce the witnesses. Lee has been charged with more than 30 offences relating to illegal gambling, sex with underage girls, prostitution and firearms. The charges, stem from a May 1997 police raid on his rooms at the Gold Range Hotel, where he ran a poker room. At that time, police say they seized more than 1,300 videotapes and hundreds of photographs, some of which showed nude teenage girls under the age of 16. A publication ban has been placed on evidence presented at the hearing. Lee has been in police custody since shortly after the raid. |
