Operation Christmas Child
Agencies collect toys and other items for the less fortunate overseas by Jeff Colbourne
NNSL (Nov 28/97) - The Yellowknife Salvation Army, N.J. Macpherson school and other schools and churches in Yellowknife hope to spread the Christmas spirit around the globe. Through Operation Christmas Child, children all over the world will be receiving presents courtesy of care-giving Yellowknifers this year. At N.J last Nov. 20, smaller buddies were teamed up with bigger buddies at the school to fill present packages with everything from toys and toothbrushes to soap and suckers. The Salvation Army was the drop-off point for the Christmas boxes. "It was certainly a well-done program," said Capt. Alan Hoeft of the Sally Ann. More than 300 Christmas boxes were collected this year compared with the 60 boxes collected last year. The boxes have been transported to the South, thanks to RTL Trucking said Hoeft. Once in the South, the presents will be sent overseas to Columbia and distributed among some 36 countries including Mongolia, Madagascar, South Africa and Thailand. |
