All candidates debates

Two all-candidates meetings are on tap next week to test the mettle of Western Arctic contenders.

On Tuesday, May 13, all candidates have been invited to the Tree of Peace Friendship Centre to discuss aboriginal issues.

The event gets under way at 7 p.m.

The following day candidates meet for a forum sponsored by Alternatives North, a coalition of church, women's, labor and environmental groups.

The theme this time will be social issues. Proceedings begin at 7 p.m. at Northern United Place.

Something's different

Did anyone notice any changes to the enumeration process this year for the federal election?

Well, the voter list is becoming an electronic registry and as a result additional information was required on the enumeration forms.

This time around, voters had to provide their date of birth and sex to enumerators. This will help Elections Canada eliminate possible confusion between people sharing the same name. Changes of address will be tracked via provincial and territorial registries such as drivers licences.

Voters lists will be available to all parties, elected members and candidates during election campaigns.

What's shaking?

Are federal elections boring? One might think so.

Although the campaigning has just begun, there seems to be little gossip being generated.

So far, no calls have been received on our notebook watchdog line about any funny, unusual or interesting tales from the campaign trail.
