NNSL (Feb 14/97) -Joining the world of FM broadcasting will allow CJCD to increase it's hit content by up to 85 per cent, offering the smooth sounds of stereo and bringing in business customers unable to currently pick them up, says station manager Dale Carter.
CJCD's recent go-ahead by the CRTC to convert from AM to FM will offer CJCD an FM licence good until 2003.
Opposition from CKLB, which intervened in the application, is unjustified, Carter added, because CJCD never intended to play country music.
"The licence won't allow us to play country, but that's all right -- we never wanted to play country."
Because the FM signal will be coming from the top of Centre Square Mall (they're currently broadcast from a tower in Dettah) more listeners should be able to pick up the signal.
"Currently most of the tall office towers in the city can't receive us because the signal's too weak. This way we'll be able to offer everyone in Yellowknife our signal.
Carter said that, while they currently don't anticipate any "drastic changes to the format," some programming changes will be likely.
