NNSL (Jan 10/97) - Qi Gong is a multi-disciplinary science and it's coming to Yellowknife.
"It's a combination of martial arts, breathing techniques and meditating, says Gisele Forget.
She got interested in Qi Gong when her son had water on the brain and was looking for non-intrusive healing.
They found it in a magazine when they were looking for alternate health care. The article said Qi Gong converted negative energy in the body to positive energy.
So after finding a master in the subject, they used it along with acupuncture and homeopathic techniques to combat the problem.
After that, Forget became a firm believer in the process and now wants to share her interest in the art.
"Qi Gong can be an awakening to an alternative lifestyle," said Forget. "Besides, with the health-care system in trouble we could cut health-care costs.
And just what is Qi Gong? Practitioners call it a holistic way of maintaining good health through harmony between the spirit, the body and the mind.
It can be used as preventative medicine, featuring healing, fitness and anti-aging Forget said.
A three-day workshop will be led by Master Michael Shen, a Qi Gong instructor for more than 20 years in Canada, Japan, Taiwan and China. The session starts Feb. 28, but Forget says registration must be done by Jan. 25.
